The Mark New York
Hotel Information: A member of the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, The Mark occupies a 1926 Art Deco building on the Upper East Side where Madison Avenue meets East 77th Street. The building's distinctive tower has a peaked copper top, tinted by time to a soft green patina. Lacy gingko trees and flower boxes flank the main hotel entryways. The hotel is on a quiet, leafy street lined with handsome Gilded Age townhouses and mansions, and the intimate marble lobby reflects that residential ambience. Guests from around the world include executives who appreciate the Upper East Side location and celebrities seeking discretion and privacy.
Amenity highlights: Mark's, the hotel's destination restaurant, serves sophisticated fare in an intimate room with British-influenced decor. Afternoon tea is a highlight. Designer boutiques within a two-block radius include Vera Wang, Michael Kors, Missoni, Issey Miyake, and Caroline Herrera. The Mark was listed as one of the top 100 U.S. and Canada hotels in Travel + Leisure's 2002 Readers' Poll, and has consistently earned high marks among other publications, including Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report and the British edition of Condé Nast Traveler.
Insider tip: Manhattan's Museum Mile lines Upper Fifth Avenue, half a block away. But notable art can also be seen—and purchased—at Adelson Galleries on the hotel's third floor. Adelson specializes in 19th- and 20th-century American art, with a focus on Impressionist masters.
This New York hotel on the Upper East Side offers 176 sumptuously appointed guestrooms. Beds are dressed in down duvets, Italian Frette linens, triple sheeting, and down and non-allergenic foam pillows. Original 18th-century Piranesi architectural prints, floral motifs, overstuffed chairs, and marble accents reflect the hotel's Neoclassical English-Italian style. Windows are dressed with soft, gathered balloon shades. Spacious baths are clad in black-and-white Art Deco tiling or caramel-tone marble and include separate tubs and showers, Molton Brown toiletries, terry robes, phones, and makeup mirrors.
All rooms at The Mark have high-speed Internet access (surcharge), four phones, fax machines, complimentary New York Times, umbrellas, and twice-daily housekeeping service. Some rooms have kitchenettes.
Rollaways are $30, and there is a $30 fee to re-make sofa beds. Fees are subject to change without notice.
